I was actually quite surprised JKR went with Ginny/Harry not because it's a bad pairing, but because book 5 really did set up the foundations for Harry/Luna. They shared similar tragic pasts, they felt safe enough with each other that they could talk about these experiences, they had such a great friendship/respect for one another, even if Harry didn't always 'get' Luna though I'm sure this would change over time because the more you get to know a person, the more you get to know their quirks.
