I am 100% against Idris Elba as Bruce Wayne, because that would mean that I could possibly find Bruce Wayne a sympathetic and compelling character, and that's just a line I'm not willing to cross.

I kind of agree with latenightcuppa in that, if Idris Elba was Bruce Wayne, they'd have to completely flip the mythos on its head, and in doing so, might create a Batman that I could potentially care about. That being said...

I guffawed.

Luther is basically a superior version of Batman anyway.

(Alice is his Catwoman. Except more prone to killing people. ...she's some kind of terrible Catwoman/Joker hybrid.)

To be honest, I kind of would love if they gender-swapped or race-swapped the Batman story and just played it straight – one of the reasons I loved Colombiana is that the heroine’s revenge quest (and associated body count) is unquestioned by the narrative.

Hmmm.

I don’t have any deep thoughts, beyond not wanting to automatically limit power fantasies given to people who are not white males.

But basically, I just don’t want to like Bruce Wayne.

Look, liking Bruce Wayne is just a line I don’t know if I can cross and still respect myself the next day.

Very true! I think the actress for Alice Morgan said that explicitly (that she was Catwoman, Luther was Batman.)
