1.) Inara was born into extreme poverty, and saved from it when she caught the high priestess's eyes.
2.) Book has more in common with Jubal Early than he cares to think about. (He does anyway.)
3.) In the first days of their acquaintance, there were times Inara was so jealous of Mal and his pigheaded, self-righteous world view that she could feel the emotion twisting in her belly like snakes.
4.) She's already half in love with Simon when she realizes that he's going to be one of those boys who break her heart.
5.) Mal is worried how how much Zoe hates Serenity's new pilot, right up until the point they start discussing marriage.
Despite the awesomeness of that scene, I am still beyond pissed that they killed Wash. Way to kill the joy, Joss. I hate how he can't even one happy relationship, ever. If we'd had another movie, I'm sure Kaylee/Simon would have ended in tears, too.
