Well, no, it's not necessarily exclusive of a romance! There have been many great romances along those lines. I don't think it's quite what Sokka's looking for in a romance, though--Toph, maybe (though I think subconsciously she does crave more tenderness than she lets on--she lets that slip sometimes around Katara), but not Sokka, from all evidence so far.
And, yes. Suki adoration is pretty much written in the stars now, just as lingering indelible Yue reverence is written...er...on the moon. An odd side dynamic, but it works, somehow. :)
