I think Toph is looking for it - not the fact that she is crushing on Sokka, and I thinks she knows that dating him would involve some of the romantic stuff as well and the drinking and naughty songs. But Sokka is clearly attracted to ladies –Yue, Suki, the girls in the poetry house. (you could even argue Ty Lee, although I've never thought he liked her)

And, yes. Suki adoration is pretty much written in the stars now, just as lingering indelible Yue reverence is written...er...on the moon. An odd side dynamic, but it works, somehow. :)

The fact that both of those two ships work so will simulanously is one reason I love Avatar.

Also, I wanted to comment on one of your other comment - you had a great point about Sokka hating dead ends, and how Suki's awesomeness is atainable, while being a bender, even if he wanted to be (and I think part of him would like to be, if only to be like the others) isn't ever going to be possible.
