And, again, it’s not really his fault because Naruto just isn’t an ensemble story and never has been, but its disappointing all the same. (And you’re lucky. Sai is a side character that still has some juice left.)
Well, it kind of is his fault. I think that if you're going to have a cast this huge (which wasn't forced on him), you have a responsibility to use them. It's kind of the character version of the pistol on the mantle piece. And I really have no sympathy for someone who can string out one fight for five chapters or more, but can't take the little time needed to treat his secondary characters right.
Plus, like you said with team eight, or team ten, if they don't really change anything or aren't needed, why are they there?

I think that's a fantastic idea for fic, but I highly doubt that Kashimoto will go there. Also killing Sasuke would be a good way to stop the cycle....
