Hmmm, Dani Reese.... well, she's the daughter of a (now) retired and highly respected police officer who, it's hinted at, was emotionally abusive and a first generation Iranian immigrant, and got addicted to drugs while undercover. She's tough, no nonsense, takes crap from no one, and has a nicely nuanced relationship with the (current) police chief (female) who used to be her father's partner.

To give an idea of her awesomeness, at one point Dani's partner was struggling with a suspect and they fall into a pool together. Dani grabs a uniforms taser and puts it in the water, shocking both her partner and the suspect. And this is totally not an issue between her and her partner.
