This came up in a conversation on Roku/Sozin, and I wanted other people's opinions on it - specifically, on what we learned about Avatar Roku's life and how it ties in with Aang:
Roku/Sozin: three minutes into this arc, I was like, *headdesk* I bet the slashers went nuts over this. (That said, the Roku/Sozin icon with "they embraced like brothers - yeah, we didn't believe Rowling either" is really funny.) Mainly, what I bothers me about "The Fire Lord and The Avatar" is all the awesomeness that was missed. Avatar usually surprised me by being more awesome then expected, but this time that wasn't to be: EVERYBODY and their brother could have predicted that Sozin and Roku had been friends, but there are several places where the writers could have done something really interesting and didn't. Namely:
Roku's wife: I am annoyed that she was barely there, and we didn't get any hints about her being an earlier incarnation of Katara or Toph, both of which would have been awesome.
The masters Roku learned from: Avatar has such a great track record with giving the ladies love that I found it inexplicable that ALL FOUR BENDING TEACHERS (Sozin, the earthbender, the waterbender and the air monk) WERE ALL MEN. No cookies for you.
Your opinions?
