[profile] molten_ghost has a challenge for us. There is a fuller explanation here but the short of it is that "we as fans tend to be soft against authors that we respect, even admire. Yet almost all examples of modern media contain themes that don't exactly mesh with most self-described feminists' concept of the modern woman."

Basically, participants would each pick one or several of their favorite series or one-shots (not necessarily fandoms) and find at least one example of undeniable, indefensible sexism. Preferably, a work that gets your hackles raised whenever someone badmouths it and ESPECIALLY if you would otherwise consider the gender dynamics to be perfect.

First off, How I Met Your Mother:

Sex - wait for it - Ism )

Secondly, Soul Eater.

I Never Said I'm A Witch - I'm Just A Girl Who Likes Magic. )

Part I

Part IIA

Part IIB

Part III

Reading this after reading The Rough & Tumble Series totally gave me mental whiplash, however.

[livejournal.com profile] avatar_contest  - for which I wrote "Healer's Hands," had four fics written for the prompt point and apparently not a single vote for any of them.

Now, I don't vote on these contests when I have a horse in the race because I feel that my choices are to be either egotistical or falsely modest and I wouldn't want to wonder if I won or lost by one vote (when that one vote was mine).

So what I'm asking you, flist, is if you have a moment and know Avatar, head over here and read some of the fics and vote for which one you think is the best. (comments at that entry are, of course, screened.)
