Several posts in several places got me thinking about character motivations - basically, what emotion is driving your character through the story, and I realized that there are two that I am pretty much always on board for and which will connect me to the protagonists:
1.) Revenge ("I shall destroy your happiness if it's the last thing I do.")
2.) Survival. ("Do you want to live? Because I want to live.")
What motivations perennially work for you? Discuss.
