I'd Rather Be A Bitch Than Another Broken Heart.

I think that's probably true. I think that with Kakashi abandoning her and Sasuke and Naruto leaving she can probably do one of two things: get really angry or blame herself. I think the hurt is too deep for it to be the former. I can see how, later on, it affects other areas of her life.

Yes. And while I thinks she gets angry as well, I think her anger is very much... very much her going, "i don't want to be weak, so I'm going to be angry instead!' which is kinda fuel by her self-loathing in a way.

Somehow I see older Sakura as being a little taller than average: 5'6", maybe. Though Kakashi is really tall, isn't he? Over 6' or something?

I think Kakashi's actually height is tall by Japanese standards, which means about 6 feet even. If you look at them in Shipuuden, I'm pretty sure Sakura's up to his chin. I think of her as smaller because I like the height difference and because I love the contradiction of the short, slender girl who can punch through rock.

Oh, Kakashi. You are so sad and pathetic sometimes.

Yet awesome. And now I want to write the fic where Kakashi is talking to Obito in his dreams, and Obito's like, 'you know, seeing nothing but violence and death and blood was bad, but somehow suddenly having to watch explicit porn is worse. Couldn't you have done this with Rin?

Also, companion piece snippet, just for you:

He’s known he’s self-serving trash since the day that Naruto practically had to kidnap him to get him into [ramen stand]. The boy had conffessed, between gluttonious slurps of pork miso that he was worried; Sakura-chan was avoiding them, he only ever saw her on missions anymore, even Sai had noticed.

And Kakashi, instead of nodding wisely and telling Naruto that he was being foolish, Sakura wasn’t avoiding him, instead of gently urging Sakura to spend less time with (-hands running down his back, nails scraping over the heavy material of his vest, arching urgently against-) him, he tilted his head and said, “Well Naruto, Sakura does have her own life. You can’t expect her to simply be available whenever you want her.”

"But-" Naruto looked confused. "I'm part of her life! Why isn't she ever around anymore? Do you think something's wrong?"

Kakashi smiled behind his mask, private, possessive. "Of course not. She's simply been a busy girl lately."

"But she's okay, right?" Naruto pressed, mumbling through the noodles hanging out of his mouth. "Nothing's, yunno, wrong with her?"

Sakura was currently jumping from A-class mission to A-class mission, filling up the scant space between them with shifts at the hospital, while the cracks around the time her duty required of her were greedily consumed by her former teacher, who'd somehow convinced her that he was worth wasting her youth on.

"Sakura's fine, Naruto."

Kakashi had lost track of the people he had killed, had learned how to sleep perfectly well with blood under his fingernails. It shouldn't be surprising that he could lie to former student without a qualm.

Naruto grinned, "That's fantastic."

And Kakashi did feel the sharp bite of guilt at the way Naruto's face softened in relief. It was the same expression Sakura had worn, looking up at him while he promised her that everything would return to normal when minutes ago Naruto and Sasuke had almost killed her.

Selfish bastard, he told himself, and wandered into Sakura's bedroom fourty minutes after her shift was over, ten minutes after she walked in the door, and three minutes after she'd tossed her medic uniform over her dressed\r and collapsed face down onto the bed.
