Yeah, I think we just a diffrent beliefs about this- while I can see what you're saying, 'benevolent dictatorship' just seems like an oxymoron to me. I think Klaus is a great, nuanced character, in part because he is doing stuff like maintaing road and such, as well as the kidnapping but I also think his power needs to be broken. Plus, as you said, it's fiction, so what would be ideal would be really boring to read. As much as I say, 'I'd like such and such to happen politically,' it's more fun if the system is screwed up. Makes for better drama.
