Death Scythe's pluses: He loves his daughter to an insane degree. He's a comedic character played for laughs. Death Scythe's minuses: He's a cheating bastard. He does inappropriate and esteem-wrecking things like agreeing that Maka is a flat-chested girl who doesn't look like a real woman, having his paid-for girlfriend by Maka presents (Maka ended up getting slutty underwear), etc.
Honestly, Stein would make a better father. He would dissect his daughter, but he's put her back together, and he wouldn't to the horrible, foot to gut moves that Death Scythe doesn't without realizing how awful he's being.
