I'm pretty comfortable with writing my favorite characters so they don't always have to be the hero or always be right in the end. *nods* For me it depends on the character in question and the type of potentially unflattering attention that I'm writing them as. Some characters I'm more protective of than others, although I don't insist that they ever always be in the right. (Sometimes it's their screw ups that make me love them the most.)
