I totally agree with you. (And oh, man, that moment we Fakir calls Ahiru his princess.... I kind a died a little inside.)
That said, (to play devil's advocate) because it IS more open to interpertation and each character is shown interacting with most of the others, I don't think it's a series where you can make hard and fast this is/isn't canon statements.
