Sakura has played this game before.
Ino always wins.
Sasuke is dead now, but Ino won.
The last time she'd fought for someone's love, she didn't really speak to her best friend for years and ended up losing both her teammates.
And she ended up alone, clinging to her textbooks and her new-found strength and so lonely she went to bed too miserable to cry and hated when she woke up in the morning.
It took her too long to pull herself out of that depression, to build herself into a strong, smart kunoichi who didn't need one person in particular to survive.
Ino announces her interest in Sakura's former teacher over breakfast and Sakura feels ill.
She thinks of the way training sessions with Kakashi have an extra heat to them now, the way his hands will linger on her body at times, innocent touches that nonetheless feel wicked.
Sasuke is dead, Naruto is off training to be Hokage, death is nipping at Tsunade's heels, and Sakura can't rebuild her life once again.
"Good luck," she chirps, and resolves to be busy the next time Kakashi decides he wants her help to trash one of the training grounds.
