My brief and belated review of “Folsom Prison Blues” which can basically be summed up as: Oh, Dean.

(Also, this is the second time I’m typing this out. I was originally writing this in an email at the library, and I shut down the computer without sending the email to myself.)

What really hit me was Dean’s expression in solitary. I had the feeling that he was prepping himself, or had already had nightmares about ending up in prison for real. I could actually see that as one of Dean’s fears; that he ends up hated instead of dying in a hunt, and ends up rotting in prison for saving people.

Also, I can’t help but think Dean has spent a whole lot of time in emotional solitary before: when he was being sent on solo hunts and Sam was incommunicado at Stanford. While I do think getting to hunt alone was good for Dean’s ego, I bet a part of him saw that as a form of rejection, that he wasn’t wanted as a hunting partner.

And do I spot a reoccurring female character with the Public Defender? I liked her, and I liked that she was smart enough to see the holes in the Winchester’s wrap sheets. However, when Dean was giving her his ‘can’t you see I’m innocent speech,’ I so wanted her to go, ‘Yeah, and the last person with holes in his story and innocent eyes got out of prison and tried to kill me.’

I greatly enjoyed Agent Whatever (to lazy to look up his name). I like how stubbornly he was ignoring all possibilities except the ones where Dean and Sam are guilty as sin, and I liked how you could tell he was annoyed/suspicious about how they got caught.

Also, I love Dean’s conversation with Tiny, and his ‘okay’ at finding out that Tiny’s brother shot their father. With the repeated family relationships that Supernatural likes, I’m really curious about what I’m expected to take out of that. Actually, now I kinda want to slip a line into a Supernatural fic about Dean wanted to shoot his father at once point - probably during Sam’s senior year of high school, because things just have been majorly tense if neither Dean nor John contacted Sam for two years.

Finally, the Deacon reveal was nice; I really hope we see him again.

Also, I'm way late on the 'quote Supernatural' meme, but I'm going to quote Dean's righteous verbal smackdown from 'Salvation' anyway:

John: Something like this starts happening to your brother, you pick up the phone and you call me.
Dean: Call you? Are you kidding me? Dad, I called you from Lawrence...Sam called you when I was dying. I mean getting you on the phone, I got a better chance of winning the lottery.
