She acts like she needs someone who's a bit of a jerk to push her out of her safety zone... I don't think she's capable of it on her own. (And yes I have friends who have done this in RL.)
Well, I think she DOES need a guy who can be a bit more of a jerk - which is why I think she and Angus work. I think turning Martin down was a good call - he was such a close friend that he's a bad guy for her to practice being a girlfriend with - they're way to incestous to risk on a relationship that was unlikely to work (which Faye knew).
That said, she also needs someone who isn't afraid of her and finds where sharpness appealing, which is why Agnus is a good call for her - he's amused/interested in her for the same reasons that martin was sometimes intimidated.
