That's okay. I may still read the first one. Although that just adds to me conviction that Briggs just should not write urban fantasy.

As for other recs... if you can handle super dark fantasy, I'd suggest you give Daughter of the Blood a try. Also, Martha Well's Fall of the Ile-Rien trilogy, first book is The Wizard Hunters.

Oh! I know. Robin Mckinley's The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown.

Also, for really fun fantasy, check out Howl's Moving Castle and the Enchanted Forest Chronicles.

And Garth Nix's Sabriel.
