If I would put it in my own context, I'd say it's that sort of possessiveness someone feels when someone close to them gets attached to another without you knowing, i.e. her jealousy when Madge brought Gale the medicine (YAY for my second OTP!)
Yep, I agree that's a factor. Honestly, though, I think Kat could be happy with either Gale or Peeta, all other things being equal.
As for Haymitch/Effie, I think Katniss would lose her head off. And roll on the floor laughing.
