I Call Occam's Razor

...which is the polite way of saying I call bullshit.

That essay strongly reminded me of all the intensely thought out meta that would occur between HP books - all of which turned out to be wrong.

Collins isn't a cheap writer. Her books hold up to reread because she gives us reasonable clues that Katniss (and sometimes the reader) misses but can pick up on reread.

And here's the thing: which is a more empowering, logical (as in, makes sense with what we know thus far) theme for Mockingjay - that Katniss stops being a pawn and starts being in control of her life.... OR there is ANOTHER person yanking Katniss' strings.

HP's ideas about what is going are too complex to be believed (how did anyone know that Kat would have volunteered for her sister - it's clear that it's not a usual thing to do at all, for example) and is completely different in tone from the two previous books.

Now, I'm not saying that there might be more to Mrs Undersea than meets the eye... but Collins is good at hinting at things to come (the gamemaker's watch, for example). I'd buy Undersea being sympathetic to the rebellion... I don't buy her being the mastermind behind it all.

The Hunger Games is about Katniss' awakening to the need for rebellion and her realization that she has been used and that that is unacceptable. To have a second reveal that Kat is being used is a.) repetitive and b.) against all the agency that Collins has spent two books building.
