The POV is very Male, but at the same time, one thing it does that you rarely see in tales of Young Men With Destinies (much less ones written by men and for boys) is to offer up increasingly strong criticism of how traditional heroes treat women, and criticize the depiction of traditional heroism as being a Male Only place. I also think Annabeth is treated much better in the text than we usually get.
