Summary: Damon isn't entirely sure who's defiling who.

He knows Elena is to blame for the way he's changing. It's unwilling and half-intentional and those fucking Petrovas; if only they loved him back even a little, it would be worth it.

Elena doesn't love him but sometime between Jeremy's neck snapping and Stefan getting entangled in the clutches of the Originals, he realizes that she considers him her responsibility.

Admittedly, that stings.

He kills people in front of her just to see that flash of guilt and anger in her eyes. She requests-requires-receives his help to keep Tyler from the Council's clutches and after, pries the bullets out of his body with almost-steady hands and steely eyes.

He talks sense into Jeremy when her idiot brother wants decides to do something else stupid and suicidal; she kisses him with blood smeared across his mouth.

She licks her lips clean before he can and Damon knows (because he is selfish, because he is a bastard, because he loves her so) that it's only a matter of time before he turns her, and then it won't matter that Katherine is locked in a tomb, because there will be another beautiful, cruel beloved to make him hurt. Elena Gilbert's making it harder and harder to flip that switch in his head and he's going to destroy all the best things about her in return.
