You know what? Being an adult sometimes really sucks. I am moving (I spent all of last weekend cleaning and prepping the room I'm moving into and I'm going to be doing the same this weekend + actually moving in) and I need to get several big chores done at my mother's house (because it's too much house for one person to keep up and I don't want to leave her with several huge problem areas). And then I need to find a job and *tears at hair* This is just not any fun at all.
There is not enough hours in the day.
And yesterday, I was talking with one of my RL BFFs on the phone and do you know what we talked about? Moving and finding a job (we're both in the same boat). And I'm like, 'how did this become our life? We sound old and boring.'*
Ugh.
*I know that this is a temporary situation and when we're both not stressed about real life we'll go back to talking fandom but seriously. MY LIFE IS WAY TO REAL RIGHT NOW, PLEASE SEND ESCAPISM. ONLY I DON'T HAVE ANY TIME TO ESCAPE.
Over the past couple days, I have, however, managed to watch the latest episode of Doctor Who. Which I disliked.
The first time I watched the episode, I enjoyed parts of it and didn't enjoy other parts, but after thinking about it, I basically hated everything this episode chose to be.
River Song being Amy and Rory's daughter was not a surprise and part of me liked that... until I realized a.) River has seemed really unconcerned with Rory and Amy - she's friendly but knowing that they're her parents, I cannot think of a situation in which her actions would seem remotely realistic. She's not angry with them, she doesn't seem to know more about them than she should, nothing. I can't think of a backstory that makes that behavior make sense, ESPECIALLY in light of how she acts with the Doctor. Also, I'm really frustrated because I feel like we're supposed to believe that the little girl in the space suit is River but if that's the case, wouldn't she have remembered being in the suit and making those phone calls? PLEASE ANSWER SOME OF THE PLOT QUESTIONS YOU'VE RAISED, MOFFAT.
Then we have River basically saying that this whole situation is the Doctor's fault because people are scared of him. Well, fuck that. The Doctor has a TON of flaws (the way he plays favorites with humanity is the one I pull out at parties) but he is NOT responsible for a punch of militaristic douches kidnapping his pregnant companion.
This episode also has Amy doing just about nothing. Except being instantly attached to the baby she didn't know she was having until she was giving birth. I liked the line about not knowing if the child would be loved because I thought it was implying that Amy didn't love the baby but based on her reactions the rest of the episode, nope, that was not the case. And I know having the person with the newborn hide is practical but fuck, I hated it. That is one reason that I fucking hate pregnancy plots because that is what happens in 96% of the storylines. The lady who popped that little goo-ball out has to sit on the side and take care of it.
The few things I did like:
–The epic lizard lady who eats Jack the Ripper and the maid who is following in her sword-fighting footsteps. I want a serious just about them so fucking much.
–Rory Williams. Thumbs up. You keep on doing what you're doing. Preferably while dressed like a Roman.
–The Doctor's whole 'Amy and Rory are totally no having sex' conversation. *snerk*
–The Doctor being ominous. "Oh, look, I'm angry, that's new. I'm really not sure what's going to happen now." Oh, Eleven's face.
–Dr Song telling the guards to turn off the alarms, she's breaking in.
