Ugh, I hear you on this. Writing explicit smut is something that's still kind of out there for me because it so easily tips over into awkward or overdescriptive or pretty much just a clinical laundry list of what's going where and I feel like I lose the chars in describing what someone's tongue or cock is doing and it's not hot, it's just kind of boring.

It's definitely something I'm working on...what's worked for me towards becoming more comfortable with it is honestly writing a story where sex is part of char development so it effectively forces me to write it, but there's good cause to address both the physical and emotional aspects so it feels more natural rather than "Eh, I'm just writing smut". (THG, Haymitch/Johanna stuff, because you know they've both got to be fairly sexually fucked up...)

Generally, less is more, I think? If you feel like you're overdescribing, try stepping back a bit and see if it gets the point across OK.
