Yeah, on reason that I don't connect with Aang so much (imho) and that his dark side is.. almost forced on him? Like, he's a naturallly boyant person who is totally nonviolent and doesn't eat meat (and how much do I love that little detail) and then has this avatar State that gives him a darkness, but it's not internal to his personality, you know? Where almost all the others have this dark side that's because of who they are and what they've been through.
And your thoughts make me want to read a really good Sokka post-series where he's gone through all this tramua and has been repressing it and then have to deal, and is just trying to ignore it and shove it away and it's not working.
Yes, Sokka is, deep down, a decent enough person that it would take him a lot to get to that point - however, I think both Katara and he could get there, if the war was long and bloody enough, and they just took little steps for good reasons and then wound up in hell.
