Ah, well, then it was at least somewhat successful as Ling-Ling was never really meant to be likeable; but she was so interesting in Retad's original story that I couldn't resist digging in to create some backstory to figure out what made her tick. She's sort of the anti-Jet in a way, not at all appealing on the surface, but they're both treating everyone around them as gamepieces to be used, just taking different approaches to do so. Some folks have managed to read that cold, but the structure and indirection of it all are so deliberately offputting that it probably does work a lot better if you know what I'm ringing changes on.
(I do recommend Retad's story -- also very very thoroughly AU at this point, but it's Sokka-and-Zuko-centric GEN with great characterization. And it's another nice long chaptered fic to boot!)
And heh, funnily enough, that fanmix was yet another case where it started out as me just wanting to do something general about Yue, and ending up turning that way because I couldn't dig up enough stuff that fit the sound and feel I had in mind for her alone, but in the process I kept stumbling across things that just about screamed "aren't I a great Sokka/Yue song?"
