He can get through many situations on sheer bluster and the ability to build awesome stuff (even in a cave, with a box of scraps) but without her . . . well, it'd make people realize that what they thought was self-destructive behavior was actually him being rather controlled. btw the novelization is awesome -- I'm a fan of novelizations -- because, among other things, there's a moment where Yinsen is rather confused because delerious!Tony keeps asking for pepper when there's no seasonings to be had.
Oooh yeah. Though I'm pretty sure it comes with the pay scale of ten full time jobs, so at least there's no worries on paying the rent for the apartment she occasionally visits between meeting plans. There are worse ways to avoid one's own issues.
