#meaningful character beats

Via tumblr:

all the feels = meaningful character beats.

On my god yes.

I have forgotten what to call those moment when I am not speaking internet. It's like the time I forgot what you call "pimping" a show or a book when the word "pimping" is inappropriate. (The appropriate synonym is "recommending," fyi.)

It's a screenwriting term (http://homes.chass.utoronto.ca/~cpercy/courses/220KeyTermsDefinitions).

The definition for a character beat is very broad - I would be describe it as a moment that is densely packed with characterization and emotion significance. For example this (http://redbrunja.tumblr.com/post/39173727201/twistedingenue-oh-clint-i-screencapped-so), which in three panels reveals so much about Clint Barton - who he is, what he values, his life, etc, etc, I could write an essay about those three panels.

Oh, okay, thanks. I've seen "beat" show up in the stage directions when I've read plays, but I always assumed it was roughly synonymous with "pause."
