I'm a fan. Or at least, I'm a HUGE fan of the battle due/queen x knight dynamic version of this trope. Especially when it's disgraced body guard in service to a badass lady. Have you read Sabriel? Like that.
No I have not, but I'll be sure to if it includes badass ladies and disgraced body guards.
I also enjoy the Bodyguard trope in Samurai Champloo. I think it's one of the key reasons I ship the female lead with both leading protagonists.
When it's done like Toph, it's awesome.
*nods* I wish there were more characters who embodied that trope well. The only examples I can think of are Toph, Teo (although I wonder if he does count because his abilities manifest less from his disability and more his intellect) and Sara from Samurai Champloo, although things don't end well for Sara.
