I'm out-sourcing my recommendations these days, because everyone is just so much more articulate than I am at the moment.

So, in brief, I am watching a new show from the BCC called Peaky Blinders. This tumblr's tag convinced me to watch the pilot, and then lady_with_cats has a rec post here.

Also, I know you are not a fan of comics, but I would STRONGLY recommend that you check out Morning Glories. It does a TON of the kind of storytelling that you like - it's about teens, there is weird shit going on, even characters who would be treated by the narrative as unquestionably good are shown to have feet of clay, much less the actually asshole characters, and the writing is just straight up CLEVER.
