I never say no to this meme.

gacked from [livejournal.com profile] leobrat and [livejournal.com profile] earnmysong:

Please ask me questions about my OTPs in the comments! Any questions! All questions! Deep questions! Silly questions! Ship questions. (It doesn't even really have to be OTPs. Basically, anything you know I have ever shipped. And maybe even anything I haven't. And, let's be serious, I could talk about certain adorable dorks for freaking ever, so let me do that. Okay? Okay.)

What makes Stiles/Lydia so shippable to you?
Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 07:17 am (UTC)
It... just is? I mean, Lydia/Stiles is an explicitly canon ship, so it’s clearly *there* being written on the show, but why I am 100% interested in that and only have fleeting interest in, for example, Isaac/Allison*, I couldn’t tell you. That question lands right in the ‘shipping is a mystery’ category.

What are your preferred TW ships?

*Although, I'm pretty sure this evening's episode has changed my mind on that one.

I'm not super picky about ships for TW. I have been liking Isaac and Allison this season though.

What ship (if any) have you encountered that ticked all the technical boxes for what you look for in an OTP - in any fandom - but for some reason you were never more than lukewarm about them?
Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 07:26 am (UTC)
Allison/Isaac from Teen Wolf. They’re sexy, they have chemistry, Allison is emotionally dominate and can hold her own (or best) Isaac, they have a fraught history, Isaac had a bad childhood, there are moments between them that spark and yet…. I don’t wait to see their interactions each week, I am not desperate to read fanfic, I don’t have any icons.

And then I watched tonight's episode, and none of the above applies.

what are the technical boxes you look for in an OTP?

Sticking to superheroes that have appeared on-screen, what is your favourite non-straight ship?

Including crossovers or characters in the same universe who haven't interacted.
Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 07:27 am (UTC)
Not applicable. I don’t ship slash, so that knocks out everyone but Rogue, Storm, Jean Grey, Sue Storm, Eletkra, technically Pepper, and Natasha. None of these women interact with other ladies, so. (And I don’t do crossovers.)

I don't know if it's more tragic that LGBT characters are woefully under-represented in a canon context, or that female superheroes are - and forget breaking the Bechdel test.

Oh, and you forgot Helen Slater in the 1983 movie Supergirl. And Catwoman. Even though they suck (beyond belief) they technically count...?
Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 04:41 pm (UTC)
I also forgot Nolan-verse Catwoman, who I LOVED.
Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 08:13 pm (UTC)
I did like her - I'm a fan of Anne Hathaway in general - but I have issues with the Nolan movies. The storylines were way too fractured to focus on a cohesive plot and the Catwoman thing kind of got swept away in all of that. I think the whole thing would have worked much better if they'd focussed on fewer elements, but devoted more time to developing them. Sure, the potential for something was there all along, but it was like the writers couldn't be bothered doing anything with it until they chucked the Bat/Cat romance at the viewers at the very end.

The more I think about the Nolan movies, the more I’m frustrated with them. I try to block out everything that wasn’t Selina slinking about being a hundred times more awesome than everyone else.

I'm going to vote for the females, and it has nothing to do with a lack of respect for the plight of the LGBT characters.

We're 50 percent of the population and we have HOW many top tier superheroines?

One. Wonder Woman. Thank you, DC -- sort of, since they do their best to slight her whenever they can. (*cough cough Gal Gadot cough cough*)

It's not that there aren't a lot of superheroines -- even strong ones -- but they're usually supporting roles of some sort. Heck, look at all the superhero movies out there. How many superheroine ones? And how seriously did they take them? I mean, Halle Berry's Catwoman...ugh.

(BTW, I agree with the two of you -- I did like Hathaway's Catwoman. I also stand in the minority of actually liking Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman, mostly because I tend to like conflicted characters, and she certainly was that.)

What really gets me is that whenever the topic of superheroines come up, the first thing that gets people irate is the issue of costumes and/or skin. Personally, I wish there'd be that level of outrage about the actual *roles* these women play, and not with what they're wearing. Worry about the costume *after* you've gotten people to take them seriously, IMO. It's as if they actually think that as long as they've got the superheroines tastefully dressed and completely covered, we women are dumb enough to overlook the fact that they're still relegated to holding up a wall. Grr.

I just want you to ramble about Felicity and Oliver for as long as you feel like it.
Friday, February 14th, 2014 08:25 am (UTC)
To be honest, the way that Felicity/Oliver fits traditional gender norms really grates.

I could go on and on about why these two work as a couple, and while I am all for Felicity learning self-defense, she doesn’t make sense as an action girl, but the doubling up of Felicity as Mr. Queen’s EA and Green Arrow’s technical support is something I’m not happy with. It’s one of many reasons that I really think that Arrow desperately needs an action girl as a full-time member of the cast.

Despite Arrow having a lot of lady characters (and a nice handful of action girls) the girls who get the most screentime (Felicity, Laurel, Thea, and Moira) never get to go toe to toe with the big bads like Oliver and even Diggle get to.

While the occasional action girls (Sara, Helena) are shown as badass, they’re only on the show briefly and they all end up fucking Oliver.

So. I feel like Felicity (as the female character who’s in on Oliver’s secret and around the most) often ends up FEELING like the only female character on the show, even when she isn’t, and even looking at how the characters and the characters skills spread out, there are WAY too many guys on the front lines and not enough ladies.

Basically, the writers need to make Sara a fulltime member of Team Arrow (and I could have down without that stupid Oliver/Sara hook up at the end of the last episode) and the writers should have given Thea Roy’s current storyline.

This is probably not the comment you were expecting.

What's one rare OTP that you proudly ship?
Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 07:27 am (UTC)
I really enjoy being the the Sif/Loki and Steve/Darcy camps.

I don't really have anything to say about Jason/Cas... I really like Jason/Steph because they're my two fav DC characters, and I think they'd be really great together.
Thursday, February 6th, 2014 11:34 am (UTC)
In your view, who are your most controversial OTPs -- as in, the ones which have the fewest fellow fans?
Thursday, March 6th, 2014 09:01 am (UTC)
Some small pairings I ship:

Middleman/Wendy
Abigail/King
Stephanie/Jason.

But those are just *small* because they're small fandoms.

More controversial (in a broader sense) would be:

Kakashi/Sakura (age difference, he's one of her teachers)
Mr. Rochester/Jane Eyre
Max/Lissell

....basically, I ship a lot of older guy/younger girl.
