but we were only strangers cornered in a dark room

So, I watched the Veronica Mars movies this evening.

And it was honestly really enjoyable, even though it kind of pummeled my heart.

Random thoughts:

  • I had such a hard time buying Logan as a military pilot. How did he, with his issues with authority, pass basic? Like, how?

  • Veronica as a lawyer makes sense only in the sense that it was something she'd believably go into to try and escape who she really was. But the hardest part of her returning to Neptune was her returning to Nepture with thousands and thousands of dollars in student loans.

  • That said, it was just in general really great to see Veronica Mars again.

  • And Keith Mars. I am so weak for that father/daughter relationship.

  • I loved Weevil growing up and being happily married with a daughter. Not sold on him suddenly going back to his biker roots at the end.

  • I loved the whole sequence with Keith getting hit by the car and Logan taking Veronica home and the sex scene. Perfectly scored and so sexy and intense and intimate.

  • And that scene where Veronica says she's leaving and then stays and walks out of the house and Logan was just waiting? I had a lot of feelings.

  • I've heard this described as an extra-long episode and it really was, in the most complementary way.

I was glad that Veronica turned down the law job because it doesn't really suit her (other than in the sense of her trying to escape who she was) and was glad for her to return to Mars Investigations, but the student loan thing was something I did have difficulty getting past. I kind of wish the movie had somehow been set right before she was set to start law school at Stanford or Harvard or something because that would be a comparable situation where I wouldn't immediately be like, "I get that you need to follow your dreams, but you probably have hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt right now!!!"

But yeah, it was both weird and really comforting to have Veronica Mars on my screen again, and the Veronica/Logan stuff gave me a lot of feelings. I also loved Weevil being married and having a kid, but while I like the parallel with him returning to the motorcycle gang with Veronica returning to her old life, I was so happy that Weevil had been able to get out and have this good life! I don't want bad things to happen to him.

Exactly. Part of me was like, 'Veronica, work corporate law for at least long enough to pay off your student debt!'

I was SO SAD that Weevil ended up going back to the life. That was the hardest part of the movie for me.
