I'm really enjoying all these articles and meta about the MCU's approach vs. the approach most DC movies have taken and I'm loving it because it cements thing I've been feeling for a long time. LOVE the third article you linked here. I also really liked that meta about the male power fantasy behind the "conservative asshole dude hero who gets shit done" approach to Steve and sort of deconstructed the reasons why certain groups of people are less comfortable with that than others. I also appreciated that they called out those "My world view is more mature than your world view" arguments as pointless and not helpful. (Sidenote: I reblogged it from you, but for some reason LJ is breaking whenever I try to link it. It's eaten two of my comments so far so I CAN'T LINK BUT HOPEFULLY YOU KNOW WHICH ONE I'M TALKING ABOUT).

I also kind of feel like it's safe to say that the MCU has done much, much more to reach out to their female audience, whereas DC is actually trying to blame the failure of Superman Returns on the idea that it tried to appeal to women.

Agreed! And I felt like it was, honestly, very balanced? It was like, 'this is why white straight guys love this... but white straight guys, stop pretending this is objectively THE TRUE WAY STORIES SHOULD GO.'

*groans* DC, your problem is that you just don't make good movies, okay? Get Gail Simone and Greg Rucka to write your script, and then come talk to me, okay?
