As per usual for me, Friday the 13th was a good day, but as I worked, went to dinner, and got home fairly late, plus I have to open in about fifteen minutes, I didn't get to post this yesterday.
So, please tell me about your favorite spooky fic idea - what you wish someone would write, or would like to write yourself, if time permitted.

Yes, I know because when you tore down the old theatre the three mediums who used to talk about it were drawn back. Seriously. I had this horrible thought of I MUST get back to my college. It was summer, i was off a few weeks from Medical school. My best friend called me and said I HAVE to get back to the college and we went and the third girl was already there. The event? They were ripping down the theatre

And it's totally sad that they tore down the haunted theatre.

I kind of had this idea for a fic where Zuko goes crazy and runs into a crowd of soldiers and just lights people on fire (with a brush of his hand), until the whole crowd burns to death.
I've also wanted to read a horror fic for Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. A real monster / haunted house / locked in the school to survive the night kind of thing.
Or a general horror story for ATLA, though I've seen some fics try, they're usually not really scary.

And yeah, Avatar does not lead itself to spooky things. I think cause you already have the spirit world as a vital part of the story, so it's not as easy to do those things. The creepiest things I've read in Avatar fic are always about the pyschological. There's been some doozies with bloodbending in general and Hama in particular.

Or maybe my zutara-colored lenses mean I haven't looked enough for gen horror fics. ::makes a note::
You'd think, though, that there would be more. Like, what about the air temples? Or other non-temple landmarks/empty cities used by the air nomads. There's SERIOUS ghost potential. In fact, you could have a damn convenient ghost story right in the WAT. But the downside being that if you wanted to fit it to canon, you wouldn't be able to kill anyone. And where's the fun in that? ::prepared to shameless kill off everyone but the main four+Zuko::
Although, if I was writing a real horror story, (with a slight Zutara friendship flavor), I'd kill off everyone except Toph and Aang and The Duke. I'd make Sokka and Haru and Teo into victims of the murderer/monster/ghost/whatever (maybe Sokka gets killed right before he can reveal the secret to save them all) and then I'd have Toph put up a fight and be wounded, and have Aang and The Duke drag Toph toward Appa/the boat/whatever to escape while Katara and Zuko do a heroic last stand/sacrifice. Thus we preserve the youngest characters (and the Avatar), a great horror film tradition.
But, you know, I'm from the FANFICION IS PAIN school of thought, so I don't think you can really do scary without mega death.

Oh, that sounds like a fun fic idea! And yeah, I like to play with the 'fanfiction is pain' as well. I usually have at least one happy everybody lives! future for an OTP and then one tragic ending.

I adopted that motto in Buffy fandom, to account for the massive angst and potential pain of characters, the torture characters went through, and the meta fact that writers block sucks ass and being a devoted enough fan to write fic means you have to be somewhat masochistic. "Torture the characters and yourself in pursuit of The Story [Bunny], and then you'll begin to appreciate what fanficcing is all about."
Hmmmm... I need to remember my own motto. I've been skating by lately. It was good to write "I Love You Like A Ruin" though, even if it was only 300 words, because I think it's the best thing I've written in months.
but there isn't... it doesn't have the same sense of the unknown as there are shows that don't deal with the spiritual in the same way.
Yes. I can see that. I almost wish there was more spirit stuff, though. The only times we've seen villagers deal with non-Avatar "spirits" since The Swamp were in season 3, in the Fire Nation villages, with the Painted Lady and Hama. Before that it was The Swamp, and before that it was the bear-like forest spirit in season 1 and the ocean spirit.
There's these "big" spirits like the ocean spirit, and there's spirits like the librarian that only the Avatar is likely to meet in his lifetime, but the regular people don't seem to interact with spirits at all, or think about them much. I wish the divide between the regular and spirit world was a little thinner... not that there be more "spirity" episodes, but just that it would creep through in little ways. Spirits in ATLA are like a natural disasters. Sucks when they happen, and when they're gone you put them out of your mind. It'd be cool if they were a little more present, in shrines or in colloquial language or in little habits and things the characters did.
I guess I'm trying to say that I wish there was more magic in the ATLA world. All the magic it has, though, has to do with bending.

Well said. And I really enjoyed 'love like a ruin', by the way.
More spirit stuff would be good. And you're right, it's not totally integrated into the regular world (I bet is was more so in Aang's day).

*nods* And I think that somehow, having the it's magic/bending makes it harder to get successfully worked up about randomly banging doors and cold spots - you have to make sure you've got bodies killed messily in a locked room.

Check it - Gojyo and Yaone sort of get trapped in this haunted as hell old mansion where freaky ass shit happens and they have to stay together to come out alive >>.
Reload 8 has an omake similar to that in the back. Three days. Three. I'm SO excited.

And I can't wait to read that omake. I've glanced at if in my friends untranslated copy of 8. Oh, and I checked amazon - I'm likely not to see the newest manga until July - it's not set to ship out until the 28th.
*sad face*

(The omake is very, very cute, even though it's yet another example of Gojyo's fashion sense being painfully bad...)

And we totally knew that about Gojyo.

For that matter, I have an FMA fic plotted out (as the sorta spiritual sequel to the one I did where they transmute Al's body and things go terribly wrong but not the way you'd expect, since it surprised me by apparently being terrifying...?) involving an alchemist serial killer and a lot of mulched-up body elements in the walls...
