So, on the way down to Eugene, my phone broke, and I got a new one today. It's charging up, and I can't do anything with it at the mo, but holy mother of god do I need to download some ringtones, because the ones it came with are fucking atrocious.

And now, memage from [personal profile] meganbmoore:

Choose a fandom and I will tell you:

1. The character most likely to fall in love with the wrong person
2. The character whom I'm embarrassed to admit I adore
3. The character that would send me screaming in the opposite direction IRL despite being fascinating in fiction.
4. The character with the most annoying personality quirks
5. The character I most admire and why
6. The character with the worst temper
7. The character most likely to fail at everything
8. The pairings I prefer in canon
9. The pairings I prefer in fanon
10. The character with the most personal growth in canon

1. The character most likely to fall in love with the wrong person

Nobody on that show had good luck with relationships. But Logan in particular, I think.

2. The character whom I'm embarrassed to admit I adore

I'm not embarrassed to admit I adore Max, but apparently that sets me apart from everyone else ever.

3. The character that would send me screaming in the opposite direction IRL despite being fascinating in fiction.

Sketchy. He amused me on the show, in real life, I'd loath him utterly.

4. The character with the most annoying personality quirks

Sketchy. And while I like him, sometimes Joshua.

5. The character I most admire and why
I have a lot of respect for Logan, because of his sense of right and how he has so many reasons to shut his eyes a just a have a nice, comfortably life, and no matter what he just keeps fighting the good fight.

6. The character with the worst temper

Max.

7. The character most likely to fail at everything

Alec has his hapless moments.

8. The pairings I prefer in canon
Max/Logan.

9. The pairings I prefer in fanon

Max/Alec.

10. The character with the most personal growth in canon

Max. She has the classic cynic becoming a hero, and I don't think she gets too softened in the journey.

I think Zack kinda wins the "bad relationship choices" award. Alec might get runner up for chasing Asha off with his angst, and his first love. I found that, except for Cindy, all of Max's coworkers were people who I'd dislike in RL, but are fun on the show. (Cindy was much wonderfulness.)

Yeah, we're supposed to just tolerate Max because Alec and Logan are hot. Which, you know, they are. I'll really never understand why people are borderline scared of female characters in important roles, much less driving the plot.
Thursday, July 10th, 2008 05:42 am (UTC)
That's true, Zack does really take the prize.

And OC is totally made of win.

I'll really never understand why people are borderline scared of female characters in important roles, much less driving the plot.

Neither will I. I remember reading the fanfic of a girl who wrote long, plotty Alec/Max that I loved, and than I realized that she honest to god didn't like Max, but wrote well enough and in character enough that it took me a long time to notice. And then I stopped read it, because I couldn't understand who someone could spend so much time on a character they didn't like, or how they could ship Alec/Max when they didn't like one half of the pairing. (I'm sure Alec only wasn't doing Logan because she seemed to dislike him as well. God only knows how she made it through the first season.)
Thursday, July 10th, 2008 06:01 am (UTC)
I freely admit that Alec is my favorite character(though, in all honesty, if I started watching the show for the first time now, I'm not sure I'd still like him, as I've grown extremely critical of the character type due to over exposure) but yeah, if you don't like Max and/or Logan, there's really no point in watching the show.

I've seen a LOT of the "this is my OTP, even though I don't like her" (I...I admit I'm kinda guilty of the opposite, except it tends to be "I probably wouldn't like him if he weren't so hung up on her," if you know what I mean...kind of like how I can't help but slightly like McKay in SGA when his crush on Sam shows up, or when he's being protective of Elizabeth) from people, often from people who slam slash fans for being jealous of female characters, when they just seem to be jealous of them themselves.
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 12:13 am (UTC)
See, I think 'if he didn't have this one character trait I wouldn't like him' is a much more reasonable response than 'I don't like him/her but I ship this relationship anyway,' you know?
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 12:28 am (UTC)
Yeah. Very often, it is one trait that determines whether or a character is liked, or even loved.

Fables!
Sunday, July 6th, 2008 07:12 am (UTC)
1. The character most likely to fall in love with the wrong person

I don't think Rose has a good track record with men, nor do any of the women who feel for Prince Charming.

2. The character whom I'm embarrassed to admit I adore

I don't have any character I'm emberrased about.

3. The character that would send me screaming in the opposite direction IRL despite being fascinating in fiction.

Snow and Bigby.

4. The character with the most annoying personality quirks

Charming.

5. The character I most admire and why

Snow, because she was really a self-made woman, and was basically running Fabletown.

6. The character with the worst temper

Bigby. But that's part of what makes him awesome.

7. The character most likely to fail at everything

Jack.

8. The pairings I prefer in canon
Bigby/Snow

9. The pairings I prefer in fanon
Snow/Boy Blue

10. The character with the most personal growth in canon

Snow.

Something I very recently got into:

Bones.

I wanted to do Avatar or Firefly, but it seems likely to me that someone will. If I can do two, I'd do Runaways, as well. If you'll allow it. Otherwise, never mind.

Isn't Bones fantastic! I love that show to bits.

1. The character most likely to fall in love with the wrong person

I think both Booth and Hodgins probably have some pretty scary girlfriends tucked away.

2. The character whom I'm embarrassed to admit I adore
I'm not ashamed! I love Bones, Angela, and would kill to find a Hodgins.

3. The character that would send me screaming in the opposite direction IRL despite being fascinating in fiction.

I don't think I'd like Bones irl nearly as much as I do in fiction.

4. The character with the most annoying personality quirks

Dr Sweets. I don't know if you've met him yet, but he pulls crap that he should be smacked for.

5. The character I most admire and why

Angela, for her unshakable sense of self, and her ability to do the right thing. I don't know how far along you are, but in the "I take the first" scene she just pwned everybody in that courtroom.

6. The character with the worst temper
Booth. But we love him that way.

7. The character most likely to fail at everything
Zack.

8. The pairings I prefer in canon
Booth/Bones, Jack/Angela.

9. The pairings I prefer in fanon

Don't really have a fanon pairing for that show.

10. The character with the most personal growth in canon

Bones.

Bones is absolutely and completely lovely. I'm trying to get my Mom into it, though I'm afraid she's going to have Adaptation Syndrome, being a huge Reichs fan.

..Really I want to get her into a show better than Lost or Gray's Anatomy, her two TV obsessions. ..That first one's my fault, unfortunately.

At the moment, I've only seen season one. Hulu only has that and the first three and last three of Season three, so I'm going to have to just sit tight and wait until I can send a Netflix DVD back and watch it that way. I've also seen the season three premier and some random episode of season two, on television, before I got into the show. By the way, the best and most undeserving compliment I've ever gotten was being compared to Bones. I wouldn't even have a problem with having her particular social dysfunction.

Awesome answers. And so true. I feel genuinely bad for Zack, I love Booth despite himself, and though I have not seen the scene to which you allude, I agree that Angela is just awesome.

Bones is one of those shows where I honestly think that the adaption made it better. A lot of my problems with the books don't exist in the show (I, personally, think the show is far superior).

I wouldn't even have a problem with having her particular social dysfunction.

Yeah, Bones is so awesome and part of her awesomeness is how bad she is with people.

Booth grows on you. They really start to do cool things with who he is, and who he used to be, and that was really enjoyable.

And, Runaways:

1. The character most likely to fall in love with the wrong person

Nico. The girl does not have a good track record.

2. The character whom I'm embarrassed to admit I adore

Chase. God, he's such a jock and I love him so.

3. The character that would send me screaming in the opposite direction IRL despite being fascinating in fiction.

Karolina. I don't think I've have much patience for her california blonde surface, but once I got to know he I'd like her.

4. The character with the most annoying personality quirks
Ummm... none, really.

5. The character I most admire and why

I don't really have anyone I admire. I would say Alex, back before we knew he was evil on the strength of his 'I'm going to redeem my family name' speech.

6. The character with the worst temper
Chase, Nico.

7. The character most likely to fail at everything

Chase.

8. The pairings I prefer in canon
Chase/Gert

9. The pairings I prefer in fanon

Don't really have one, although I love the idea of new guy having a thing for Gert.

And Cloak/Dagger. (I'm not sure how canon that one is.)

10. The character with the most personal growth in canon

Nico, but I think it's negative character development. (I have a feeling she may go evil.) Otherwise, Chase.

Someone else said Fables, Avatar will be snatched up quickly . . . Girl Genius!
Sunday, July 6th, 2008 04:30 am (UTC)
1. The character most likely to fall in love with the wrong person
2. The character whom I'm embarrassed to admit I adore

Klaus Wulfenbach. And I totally ship him/Lucrezia-in-Agatha's body, soley for the huge angst potential.

3. The character that would send me screaming in the opposite direction IRL despite being fascinating in fiction.

Klaus, Agatha, the Jagers.

4. The character with the most annoying personality quirks

That motherfucking cat.

5. The character I most admire and why

Agatha. Because she gets handed a hard row to hoe, and does then builds a freaking robot to hoe it for her. I love the scene where she's in the zepplin and goes, "Let's make some trouble."

6. The character with the worst temper
Von Pin.

7. The character most likely to fail at everything

Lars!

8. The pairings I prefer in canon

Agatha/Gil

9. The pairings I prefer in fanon

The aformentioned Klaus/Lucrezia-in-Agatha's body

10. The character with the most personal growth in canon
Gil.

The Miles Vorkosigan books!
Saturday, July 5th, 2008 06:08 pm (UTC)
1. The character most likely to fall in love with the wrong person

I think Miles is pretty good at that.

2. The character whom I'm embarrassed to admit I adore

I think I find Ivan more amusing than I should. And I love 'A Civil Campaign' for so many reasons, but one of them is Ivan being clever. Also, I like I like Vorkosigan senior and find him sexy as hell way more than could be expected. ...and in a lot of ways, I find Mark more compelling than Miles.

3. The character that would send me screaming in the opposite direction IRL despite being fascinating in fiction.

Miles. So Much so.

4. The character with the most annoying personality quirks
Miles has his moments, and while I think in person Mark's issues would get aggravating, in fiction I'm fascinated.

5. The character I most admire and why

Probably Mark, who was broken and spent so much time putting himself together, and even though he had help and therapy, he took it, you know?

6. The character with the worst temper

Grandfather Vorkosigan.

7. The character most likely to fail at everything
Ivan's pretty hapless.

8. The pairings I prefer in canon
Aral/Cordelia, Mark/Karen.

9. The pairings I prefer in fanon

I don't mean this is a romantic way, but I'm continually sorry we didn't get to see more Cordelia and Gregor interaction.

10. The character with the most personal growth in canon

Mark. Although Cordelia certainly went through a hell of a lot of personal discovery in her books.
Saturday, July 5th, 2008 09:12 pm (UTC)
1. He certainly does, doesn't he?
9. Oooh, yeah. That'd be cool to see.
Saturday, July 5th, 2008 10:31 pm (UTC)
9. Oooh, yeah. That'd be cool to see.

It really would. You see a bit of their interaction, and they're really... in a lot of ways, they speak the same language, and they both freak out in interesting ways.

1. The character most likely to fall in love with the wrong person

Hmmmm, I don't think there are a lot of people being smart about who they fall in love with. That said, Zuko.

2. The character whom I'm embarrassed to admit I adore

I'm not embarrassed to admit I adore Zuko - but I am embarrassed at how much I love him - it makes me feel like a fanbrat. (However, Katara is only in second place by the barest smidge, so I rate above all those fans who hate her from daring to not be perfect.)

3. The character that would send me screaming in the opposite direction IRL despite being fascinating in fiction.

Zuko.

4. The character with the most annoying personality quirks

Of the main cast, Toph and Aang annoy me the most just in general.

5. The character I most admire and why

Katara, because when she was very young she manned it up and took care of her family, and she's a fighter until the very end. That girl is never going to give up.

6. The character with the worst temper

Tie between Katara and Zuko.

7. The character most likely to fail at everything

The cabbage man.

8. The pairings I prefer in canon
Suki/Sokka.

9. The pairings I prefer in fanon

ZUTARA! Suki/Sokka! Ty Lee x Mai x Azula!

10. The character with the most personal growth in canon

Zuko. No one else has the emotional arc that he does.

Hmm, how about Naruto?
Thursday, July 10th, 2008 04:26 am (UTC)
1. The character most likely to fall in love with the wrong person
Sakura.

2. The character whom I'm embarrassed to admit I adore

Jiraiya. I really didn't like him for the longest time, and then his last arc made me wibble so hardcore.

3. The character that would send me screaming in the opposite direction IRL despite being fascinating in fiction.

Gaara.

4. The character with the most annoying personality quirks
Tie between Naruto, Sasuke, and Shikamaru.

5. The character I most admire and why
None of the characters are really well-written enough for me to really admire them. Kakashi comes closest, and I only don't admire him, because despite of all he does do awesomely, his damage controls him a little too much.

6. The character with the worst temper
Sakura, Naruto, Tsunade.

7. The character most likely to fail at everything
Naruto

8. The pairings I prefer in canon
Shikamaru/Temari

9. The pairings I prefer in fanon
Sakura/Kakashi, Hinata/Neji, Sakura/Gaara, Anko/Iruka.

10. The character with the most personal growth in canon

Probably Sakura.
