On the topic of Sakura/Kakashi, I'd like to bring something up from waaaaaay back. When the original Team 7 was doing the tree-climbing exercise in the Land of Mist or Waves or whatever, Sakura totally dominated Naruto and Sasuke. It was awesome. Naruto swallowed his pride and asked for advice. Another great character moment.
But after that, Sakura went to guard the bridge. Naruto and Sasuke were continuing to train and improve, but Sakura just sat there. She could've done, I don't know, meditation or practiced illusion techniques or throwing weapons. Hell, maybe she did, but we can only make assumptions since I recall that she was just shown sitting around being bored for one panel.
For the sake of this argument, I assume she did nothing. That's partly her fault and partly Kakashi's, but I think more of the blame rests on Kakashi, since he's the teacher and should know better. I think that's how you ruin gifted students--you praise them for getting ahead of everyone else, then you let them slack off in the back of the classroom until the bell rings. Kakashi was effectively teaching her to give the minimum effort, then sit around being bored.
Do you have an alternate interpretation of that, or is it just a sign of how Sakura's motivation has grown over the course of the manga and how Kakashi used to focus too much on Sasuke and/or Naruto? Or do you just follow the "she was training offscreen and it was never mentioned" school of thought?
