1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it’s over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

This is gacked from [livejournal.com profile] pikabot , and I've been meaning to do this for about a month, and then I keep not having the freaking time to just sit down and write.

So, since [livejournal.com profile] enderxenocide is here, I'm dragging her into this, to boot. (So you can check out her lj for her take on these songs. There are some hilarious symmetry about characters and themes)

Since Naruto has a huge cast, we are letting out muses be guided to Kakashi/Sakura, Gaara, Tsunade, Itachi, and Sasuke/Naruto (we each picked a pairing and two characters). Vague spoilers for the latest chapter.

1.) It's Over, It's Under - Dollshead

Itachi sees everything through the Sharingan.

His memory is always flawless.

His best friend mouthed 'why' when his air ran out.

His mother fought; she'd flung four shuriken at him and he'd gutted her before she could reach for the kunais strapped to her thigh.

His father hadn't fought at all; Itachi had beaten him the minute his wife had flopped to the ground like a cleaned carp. The sword thrust down through his back had only been the coup de grace.

His sword dropped exactly three drops of blood on the floor from the time Sasuke came into the room to the time his brother tried to killed him for the very first time.

2.) Desperation Song - Carbon Leaf

Tsunade spent years running from Konoha, trying to out race her memories, drowning her ghosts in sake, wanting to gamble her pain away.

And now she's never out from under the sight of her predecessors, and even her own eyes gaze stonily down at her.

I want to escape, she thinks but sake no longer burns her lips, and she's betting with things too valuable to lose lightly (lives, livelihoods, respect) and she has a bright eyed girl to raise and a loud mouthed boy to save and Shizune's finally dating actual men, and really, what she wants more than anything at this moment is someone to rub his hands down her shoulders and kiss the back of her neck.

Fuck, she thinks.

3.) All These Things I've Done - The Killers

Once upon a time, Sakura knew how to quit. She was never very good at it, but she could give up.

Sometimes, she wishes she still did.

"Fool!" Tsunade roars, "Stop wasting my time!"

And Sakura, bloody, bruised, tears streaked down her face, grabs her last kunai and lungs at the Legendary Sannin.

Tsunade laughs so hard she forgets to pull her blow, and Sakura spends the evening in the hospital getting her ribs healed.

"We'll save Sasuke together," she promises Naruto, and lets Sasuke run her through just so she can get close enough to punch his pretty, perfect, poisonous face.

"This is a bad idea," Kakashi tells her.

"Screw you," she retorts, and does.

4.) Rain - Steve Conte

Kakashi watches boys fall in love with her, and pretends he isn't just as foolish.

Naruto looks at her like she's perfection, Lee looks at her like she's a princess, Sai looks at her like she's a compass, Sasuke looks at her like she's a prize.

Kakashi looks at Sakura.

5.) Everybody Knows - Concrete Blonde

Kankarou hated Gaara before he was even born.

It wasn't just the way he made Mother's face all pinched and tight even when he was still in her belly. It was that, and then the way that Temari was so excited about having a sister (she insisted she was going to get a sister, because she already had a baby brother).

And then Gaara was born, and for a while, nothing really penetrated through the haze of grief and tears, the smell of mucus thick in his mouth.

Until there were sandstorms with no wind, until the whites of his father's eyes started to show, until one night he was bundled up in his clothes and some servant was packing his things up, and when he ran into Temari's room she was already gone.

6.) Cowboy Romance - Natalie Merchant

Sakura sleeps curled up, hands fisted and held by her face, like she has dreams that need to be pummeled, and Kakashi wakes her up in the golden light of late morning by kissing her bare shoulder blades, gentle tickling kisses because then she'll turn to him, smiling like the sunrise, and for one perfect instant that Kakashi knows is a lie, he'll believe that he can protect her.

7.) Paths of Victory - Cat Power

The trap is laid, the die has been cast, and Sasuke knows that Konoha will fall.

He walks into the Hidden Village and under the Hokage monument Sakura and Naruto are sitting on the grass. They are facing each other, focused on each other, and there is no weakness in the way they sit, no space for a third to be forced in and split them apart.

8.) Girl In The War - Josh Ritter

You lose your spark quickly when there's a war on.

That's what Dan noticed first - that she was still vibrant enough to slam her fists down on the desk and yell, that she was still fighting for her teammates' lives, that she had incredible breasts.

And she talked to him. He agreed with her, and she'd turned to him, startled, and sought him out after the meeting, and he'd walked her home, desperately trying not to make a fool out of himself.

She'd grinned, kissed his cheek, dashed up the stairs, and Dan had stood in front of her building for almost an hour, until a white haired boy bumped him on the way inside.

"Sorry," the guy said insincerely.

"I'm in love," Dan informed him.

He laughed. "You poor bastard," he said, the marks on his face looked like tear tracks.

9.) Witness - Sarach McLachlan

Kakashi likes to touch her. The world is falling apart, and Kakashi touches her like hope, traces unmarked skin where death blows should be.

"I'll never die in battle," she promises him, lifting her hips to his mouth, digging her heels into the mattress.

"I know," he says, breath hot on his skin, and licks into her.

She just wished that wasn't why he loved her.

10.) July, July! - The Decemberists

Kakashi almost killed her when he proposed.

It was the middle of a discussion on the best way to flush the remaining Ataksuki out of hiding at Ichiraku, Yamato looking at his food like it was going to eat him, Naruto inhaling bowl after bowl of beef broth.

"....and while we're there, I should probably marry you," Kakashi said musingly, and Sakura gagged on her soba noodles.

Thank you so much! I was so glad to have someone respond to this as quickly as you did - and saying such flattering things, too!

no.8 is my favourite.

Does Jiraiya know that Dan is referring to Tsunade? Are the 'tear tracks' caused by his unrequited love for her?

Saturday, September 13th, 2008 09:49 pm (UTC)
Thank you! And no, I don't think Jiraiya knows who Dan is referring too.

The 'tear tracks' line come about because the marks on young Jiraiya's face, before they become long strips, looks a lot like the stylized tears some clowns will draw on their faces.

I always kind of thought of the marks as 'tears', caused by the horror he has seen in battle, but the horror he has seen in love works just as well, lol.

My "rational" explaination for the markings is that they're something like Rin and Kiba's, and grew as he aged.

So, I know that you wrote these sitting RIGHT NEXT TO ME yesterday, but I just wanted to comment and say (yet again) that these are amazing.

I think it was because you were right next to me that they were so awesome. ^_^

*grins* the last one was priceless. really. <3 I also really liked the one about Tsunade (#2 Desperation Song - Carbon Leaf) because I think people forget she has other dimensions to her personality aside from scheming, blundering Jiraiya and drinking sake. Lovely job.

Thank you! I imagine that is how Kakashi does the big, romantic moments. In this utterly low key, nonchalant way that totally pulls the rug out from under Sakura's feet.

As for Tsunade... people, she's the goddamned Hokage. She's running a freaking country/ninja village with backstabbing politics and external threats, and even before that, she was an incredibly well known Sannin.

You don't get those skill solely by drinking, you know?
