I'm sure you all remember how I quit watching
Once Upon A Time in disgust at the end of the second season, which is why me recommending the spin off
Once Upon A Time In Wonderland is going to sound very weird... but I'm recommending it.
I'm going to give you the only slightly spoilery (like, not past the pilot) recommendation and if you want more, just check out my
OUAT-tag (which is super spoilery).
Okay, basically Alice (of Wonderland fame) breaks out of a Victorian mental asylum with the help of the disreputable Knave of Hearts and goes on a quest to save her genie fiancé. Here's why you want to watch it:
- like the first season of Once, ladies, ladies, ladies. Lady heroes, lady villains, etc. Besides the whole show being about Alice rescuing her fiancé, Alice saves the Knave far more often than the Knave saves her.
- Speaking of the Knave and Alice, oh, how I ship them. Like, Alice's canon love interest is very hot and he knows the way to a girl's heart (adventuring and swordplay) but the Knave does things like look at her like this and lean against the wall while she kicks ass (I couldn't find a good gif, sorry, but this shows his 'Alice is kicking ass' smirk) and in general, is just epically invested in Alice's emotional wellbeing. Did I mention the part where Alice LITERALLY RETURNED THE KNAVE'S HEART TO HIM? I haven't found out the details about how, but I'm sure it's going to be amazing.
- PLUS, THIS SHOW'S DAYS ARE NUMBERED. It was originally intended as a thirteen episode miniseries and while there were some talks about extending it, the ratings have been pretty bad, so you go into this knowing exactly how much time you are investing.
