redbrunja: (Might Have Been A Daddy's Girl)

I Am No Man's Daughter, Allow Me That

I think it's really cruel of my teachers that they all decided to get hardcore and start truly assigning things on the week of halloween, when I have a friend I haven't seen in months visiting.

Timing FAIL.

Also, it was cosplay night at anime club. [livejournal.com profile] enderxenocide  and I were Hakkai and Gojyo, and, if I may be frank, we were awesome. (Even if I couldn't get my hair to make the little antenaes, and we haven't figured out the monocle.) I also ate a month's worth of sugar. Anyway, Gojyo is so fun to cosplay. I just play with my (fucking awesome red) zippo and cigerette and act slutty, and it's a blast. And then [livejournal.com profile] enderxenocide  orders me around (I got Hakkai a piece of pizza, a drink, candy, and something else.)

Now, before I get into the animes, a word: Please no spoilers in comments. Even those vague, "wait until later when something happens relating to what you just said! Character you loved/hated gets badass later!" kind of comments. I am a clever girl, and I always end up trying to figure out what you mean, especially when two people who have both seen the series get into those conversations full of written eyebrows lifts and significant looks.

Okay, Soul Eater? Rocks hardcore. Maka is fucking awesome, with actually valid daddy issues, and a fantastic attitude.

I am totally shipping her and Soul.  I love how they interact, and if that awesome scene in the credits where she grabs his hand and he turns into her scythe wasn't enough, there was the fantastic scene where she thinks he'd ditching her (and that girl is going to have such issues when she starts to date - hell she has them now... of course, Soul is totally going to flip when she starts to date....).

I love the style - it's stylistic and elongated while still being pleasant to watch.

Then I watched episode 5, because [livejournal.com profile] enderxenocide  loves crazy scientist characters and Dr Stein and Copy Nin Kakashi need to go out for drinks. So much.

And that scene when Stein was drawing on Maka's stomach? Creepy and hot.

Also, I totally want a Maka icon with her and Soul (in weapon form) and the text: "no man's daughter".

Last Exile: Awesome, as per usual. I think I'm going to love Tatiana desperately. Also, I'd like to chuck Alex Row off his freaking awesome boat. I have no patience for brooding brunettes who act like assholes (and yes, I'm sure he has some desperately tragic backstory that is still not going to make treating everyone like pawns okay.

Also, everyone was being really obnoxious and yelling "Karmina" whenever Alex was onscreen. I almost turned around and yelled that the girl behind me the third time it happened.

TTGL was another episode I've seen, so I skipped out early. Frankly, the more I hear about TTGL and meet its fangirls, the less I want to watch that show.

COSPLAY PICS NOW PLZ!!! That sounds like awesome fun.

(Did you ever watch Babylon 5, btw? If not, you totally should because Delenn and Ivanova totally kick ass. But I have that on my mind right now because my favorite insane overengineered shoe company has finally come out with a dress boot, and it's just slightly weird-looking enough that I'm wondering if it might be just the thing for a Psi Corps cosplay idea I've kicked around for years...)

We actually forgot to take pictures. But don't worry, we're dressing up as them for Halloween, so we'll get photos then.

And no, I haven't watched Babylon 5, but I've heard nothing but good things.

I can't wait to see them -- I bet you look awesome as our favorite kappa.

And B5 is definitely worth watching, for all of its flaws. It's uneven at time -- some of the cast are better than others, one or two are painfully weak (including, sadly, a couple of the later-season girls), but the ones who were good were REALLY, REALLY good. And the overally quality of the show wobbles a little bit at the beginning, before it hit its stride, and at the end, since the storyline was all plotted out in advance but it got horribly condensed and shifted around in the penultimate season when they thought they were going to get cancelled early, which left some of those painfully rushed and then the real last season wound up with some filler as they had to compensate. But all in all I enjoyed it a great deal despite its flaws, and oh man I think you would ADORE Ivanova in particular, she's absolute snarky love. And did I mention the canon femmeslash subtext-that's-damn-near-text?

I have heard of the subtext-that's-damn-near-text, and the fact that babalyon 5 is on of the few shows where people believe it when the creators say, "it was all planned (except for when actors left and we had to scramble.)"
