the space between dream and reality (Itachi/Anko)
One of the lesser know, rather frivolous side effects of the Sharingan is that dreams are recorded just as perfectly as any jutsu.
For example, Itachi can recall, at a moment's notice, all of his nightmares. Somehow, though, the nightmares are easier to recall than the insane dreams: having a tea party with Sasuke and his mother's favorite chigiriki, the chain of the weapon looping in defiance of gravity to spell out that week's vocabulary words or, a dream even less lucid, laughing on a rooftop with Anko, the smoke from her cigarette forming into a pair of corporeal hands that slowly strip her clothes away, peeling back mesh and leather to reveal acres of white skin, touchable, lickable, bitable, and forever marred by the mark at the bend of her neck.
On the cusp of remembrance and reality, Itachi decides that he hates Orochimaru for putting his mouth there first.

Sai begins to question Danzou when his commander starts ordering him to do things that are pleasant and ineffective
Sai has been well-briefed on sex as a weapon, sex as manipulation, sex as duty. No one ever informed him that the sensations depicted in books shelved in fiction seemed to be more accurate than most of his texts on emotions, especially when Sakura's sex is tight around his, when she is moving over him, rocking and gasping, sweat dampening her lurid hair and an expression in her eyes that is impossible to capture in inks or charcoal or pastels.
But no matter how many nights Sai spends in Sakura's bed, learning the ways to make her shudder and moan and orgasm, learning what not to say to prevent Sakura from throwing him and his pants out her window, she is never the disloyal kunoichi Danzou wishes for.
No, it is Sai who feels his loyalties shifting, the ice of his personality cracking under the force of Sakura and her wild, wanton emotions.
If he were a true shinobi, he would obey orders to plant disingenuous evidence of her treachery without hesitation.
If he were a true shinobi, catching Sakura gazing at her old team photo would not cause the psychosomatic sensation of sour milk in his belly.
If he were a true shinobi, he would not observe his face in the mirror, cataloging the similarities between his coloring, cheekbones, pallor and those of Uchiha Sasuke and be unable to understand the meaning in the differences he found.

He knows who Anko belongs to.
She belongs to Konoha, loyal past pain, past death.
She belongs to Orochimaru, whose name she still moans in her sleep, whose name she curses when she wakes.
She belongs to some boy she doesn't name, but who causes a slow, self-deprecating smile to cross her face.
He wants her to belong to him too, wants something beyond the nights she slinks into his window, sake and dango on her breath, insulting and seductive and impossible to ignore. He never intends for it to happen, but it always ends the same way; her wrists pinned to his mattress while he fucks her, harsh and unforgiving, because if he ever took the time to use her body like he wants too (slow, soft touches until she's begging, reverent kisses to the arch of her foot, the inside of her knee, the soft, salty center of her sex) she'd shove him away, and even if midnight assignations neither of them talk about aren't even close to what he wants, he'll not quite enough of an idealist to give them up.

The Sai/Sakura was perfect; I don't even have words for it.
And, of course, the one line I noticed in the Iruka/Anko: She belongs to some boy she doesn't name, but who causes a slow, self-deprecating smile to cross her face. I really would ship them so hard if I wasn't already signed over to Itachi/Anko for the rest of eternity.

I was totally thinking f Insomniac when I wrote that - I wanted him to be dreaming of Anko sexually, and the image of them smoking on the roof popped into my head as something that would be delightful to tweak around into something more explicit.
As for the Sai x Sakura... I've had the idea for a while of Danzou ordering Sai to start a relationship with her, and thought that the whole set up is jut RIPE for angst.
And, of course, the one line I noticed in the Iruka/Anko: She belongs to some boy she doesn't name, but who causes a slow, self-deprecating smile to cross her face.
Yes. That is there because Orochimaru and Konoha in general just wasn't quite enough to fully claim Anko - but having that dead lover in there just makes her seem SO much more taken, and since I was already writing Itachi/Anko up above... and no one ever said Anko/Itachi and Anko/Iruka are mutually exclusive...

Sai/Sakura was pretty, too, but in a very different, intimate way. Very sexy. ;)
And the third one makes Anko/Iruka really, intensely appealing. XP The last bit is especially memorable.
