You know, I actually really enjoyed this chapter.

The longer Kishimoto drags out this whole Kakashi maybe-dying thing, the more I think he's going to live.

Was it just me, or did those things that Pain dragged out of those two chuunin's mouths look incredibly phallic and porny?

I like Eibsu's (sic?) dramatic entry.

I can't figure out what the animals are, but I think Shizune's and Ino!Daddy's summons are badass.

Also, I totally missed it until someone point it out, but Ino and her father are communicating telepathically.

Now I want to write some adorable fic with five times Inoichi mind-speaks Ino while she's doing something she doesn't want him to know about.
 
Wow, the Naruto part of this chapter is incredibly repetitive and boring and tells us something we're only heard about FIFTY BILLION TIMES BEFORE LIKE, OMG, THE NINJA WAY IS TO NEVER GIVE UP REALLY I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED, CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!

I liked the section showing the village's changed opinion of him, partially because it was so clear to me that they love him because of what he did, and that if he stopped pulling off awesome impossibly things, they'd think he was an obscenity again. (Which is why he needs to end up with Sakura or Hinata, if anyone, because both of those girls started respecting him back when no one else did, and also why Iruka was so very awesome /random tangent)

I'm praying SO hard Konohamaru dies. Or at least is horribly maimed because if he even holds his own again the people who took down Jiraiya, beat the hell out of Kakashi, and killed Chouji's dad, I'm going to spit.

If Konohamaru pwns Pain, I'll be sure this is just a nightmare Naruto is having for not eating ramen in a long time :P

Every time Naruto!time pops up in these recent chapters, I want to facepalm. We've already established that he's still training with the froggies, getting weird eyeshadow-looking marks in sage mode, and that he's never gonna give you up. And he's totally unaware of the fact that at the moment, it almost looks like there might not be a Konohagakure for him to become Hokage of, haha. Kishimoto must be having a huge brain fart (huger than normal, that is).

I liked being able to see it all together like that, in a sort of scrunched up timeline.

And seriously. The Naruto scene was NOT needed. We got it the first time; frog dude can't merge with him... which sounds incredibly wrong and dirty to even write. ew. And, ummm... BIG FUCKING RED TRUCK to the "ninja way" thing, yo! it's only been beaten to death, ressurrected, lit on fire, stabbed by thousands of pointy spikes and then put out with battery acid a coupl dozen times already. Also... it's really rather pathetic that Naruto is now coming to this conclusion like it's some big revelation... WHEN HE'S ONLY BEEN SAYING IT SINCE FREAKIN CHAPTER FOUR!!!

Konohamaru isn't gonna die. And he's not gonna pwn Pain. If he does... I'm done. I don't even care if Kakashi lives after all this. He'd be better off dead if that kid kicks Pain's ass. And I honestly don't think I can survive watching yet another of my favorite characters get emasculated. But I don't think Konohamaru will. Theories for this:

1) Ebisu (who FINALLY shows his awesomeness, the damn closet perv) is gonna step in and lay some serious damage to Pain... which will be completely acceptable to me since I truly think this guy's got some hidden talent.

2) Naruto is gonna return in the knick of time, true hero fashion, and save everyone's ass. Not my preferred ending... but again acceptable. Personally, I'd love the massive amounts of angst and self-blaming that would ensue if he came back AFTER the village was destroyed and people that he knew were dead. But... as you've pointed out before, Kishimoto doesn't tend to drift toward the "OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!" writing, unless it's to kill off the awesome characters. Jiraiya. Asuma. Looks like Tsunade's next. Eventually Kakashi, I'm sure. *sighs* I'm gonna back to reading about Argentina now. Even their depressing governmental history is happier than that last idea.

I KNOW! It's like, if I was leaving my dying message, I wouldn't tell somebody something that they already know.

I would really go for option one. And option two is also acceptable, as long as Kakashi makes it through, and I am really, really, really praying that he does, because I think his death really doesn't serve anything, especially if Tsunade bites it.

Other than throwing Konoha into mass chaos as all their leadership figures are killed. But again... that's what's called brilliant storylining, and I don't see Kishimoto really doing that. No offense or anything, but the concept of a leaderless society and such would be too much for the kiddies to fully comprehend, I think. Plus, it would be overall too dark a theme for Naruto... though it could REALLY use a good punch of darkness to it once in a while.

Yeah, the structured society of Naruto is WAY too intergral for Kishimoto to kill off his leaders. I can think of one arc where it is basically the Rookie Nine dealing with life alone (Sasuke-in-a-barrel-arc and every other time there has been at least one authority figure around).

It's not like Avatar or even FMA where the young protagonists are shown dealing with things sans parental intervention.

Maybe it's because I have a soft spot for the little snot, but I was very sad to read that DDD: Granted, I don't want him to win at all. That'd be a severe stretch of the imagination. I'm agreeing on the likelihood of theory one that someone posted above me :)

I am really anticipating more on Inoichi and Ino though. Ino, if she's going to follow in Inoichi's footsteps which I totally think she will, is going to kick some major ass if she ever gets to actually fight in a scene :o)

And I'm remarkably hypocritical about character death. I'm all for it - as long as the characters I love aren't the ones getting offed, because that just sucks.
