DVD Commentary on "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, Baby"
Here is my DVD commentary on "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, Baby" for
rachelthedemon [Unknown site tag] . You can read the original version here.
I was talking with xlovelylightx about Mai/Jet, and realized that their personalities would bounce nicely off each other. Mai isn't passionate about anything, Jet is obsessively passionate about hating the fire nation, and they both have a callous disregard for human life.
Jet ran a hand up and down her bare thigh, the hot tangle of victory in his gut more pleasant than the post-coital lassitude thrumming through his bones.
She’d been so, so easy to seduce.
Jet, like Jiraiya, is fun to write in that what they THINK is going on is not what is going on. I have the feel that Jet 'seducing' Mai involved her coming into his cell, dropping her robes, and going 'strip, earth kingdom peasant who's name I can't be bothered to know.'
He gave it another week –two, tops, before she would be pushing the keys to this cell into his hands and begging him to save himself, no, don’t think about her, he was all that mattered. And he’d look reluctant and heroic and the next time they saw each other would be right before he slashed her pale, Fire Nation throat wide open.
He'd have a much better time trying to pull that stunt with Ty Lee. Inferring from a comment by
rachelthedemon , I'm assuming that most Jet/Mai fics play the above scenario straight, which is just, no.
Jet smiled, and was sure to make his expression loving and benevolent as he gazed down at her, sprawled naked on his prison cot, long black hair sticking to the damp skin of her breasts, tendrils clinging to her sharp cheekbones.
She let out a long breath.
Wait for it....
“Well,” Mai said. “That was underwhelming.”
Fuck yes. I am QUITE pleased with that ending line - in fact, the whole fic was written to that ending line, and I love the idea of Mai, with three words, completely decimating Jet's ego, plans for escape, and masculinity. Because Jet may be a badass rebel leader, but he'd underestimate Mai, and she'd destroy him for it.
