 Okay, so I tried to watch episode 2 of Baccano! in English.....

Miria is wrong.

Isaac is not!right but could grow on me.

Ennis is perfect.

Vino/Rail Tracer/Claire MADE MY EARS BLEED!

Seriously, it was almost as bad as watching the English Naruto Shipuuden trailers.

Nice does sound sexy. She's the only one who actually works the gansta accent. Everyone else just sounds moronic.

Meyer is perfect, though. Even better than the Japanese VA.

I wish dubs were better. I like watching without having to follow the subtitles at the bottom of the screen, and I tend to notice more subtle things like expressions and boy language when I don't have my attention diverted. It's just...English dub actors seem to be more likely to suck.

THEY DO! I mean, I know part of it is my getting a set idea of what the characters should sound like, but even taking that into the equation... The just seem to suck so often.

I'm found that in its later titles, like from 2003 onward, Funimation has impressed me. Except One Piece. But mostly they've done several of my favorite dubs...Furuba, Princess Tutu, FMA, Lupin III.

I really liked Miria's voice, actually. And yeah, I've heard her original voice, too. They sound pretty similar to me. Ennis' seemed too high, too feminine, and I loved Isaac's though it was a tad deep. I really hated Firo's, though.

This will sound really crazy, but thought Miria's voice wasn't high ENOUGH. She sounded too low to me.

Okay, I can see that, but considering Glass' range, Miria's voice is very good. She normally does lower voices, i.e. Haruhi Fujioka. Similarly, Tatum is using a voice higher than his normal very deep one in order to do Isaac, though it is really funny that Isaac has a higher voice than Kyouya. Both are voiced by Tatum.

I've heard that. I think if I'd watched the dub of Ouran, I'd have a great appreciate for Issac and Miria in the English.

Yes, probably. Essentially, the Ouran dub has Glass and Tatum using the voices they generally work with, in their normal range, in their normal sorts of parts. Baccano! has them expanding their ranges and going against type. Same with Nice's voice actor, Colleen Clinkenbeard, who normally voices Wise And Sarcastic Older Female Supporting Character, and while Nice fits that a little, she doesn't really, and Colleen can really nail a gangster accent, unlike Firo's actor.

Totally agreed about Colleen. She was the only one who nailed that accent and made it smart and sexy.

Have you ever heard her as Yuuko in xxxHOLIC? (which also has Firo and Isaac's VA's, too. Tatum as his natural five-fathoms-deep voice). She's SO incredibly good that I've come across at least two reviews from notoriously dubs-suck people that say that everyone should watch xxxHOLIC in english at least once, purely for her performance.
This might sound bad, but one of the things I liked about Glass and Tatum being cast as Isaac and Miria, is that it gave them a chance to work on their chemistry, before taking up Triela and Hilshire in Gunslinger girl: il teatrino.

I don't know, but Viz is putting legal subs of Naruto: Shippuden online pretty much everywhere. Hulu, naruto.com, Crunchyroll . . .
