This meme is going around my flist again, so here are some of my unpopular multi-fandom opinions:

1.) I long to punch Toni DiNozzo. The thought that NCIS might besetting up a relationship between him and Ziva (so I hear through the grapevine) makes me want to retch.

2.) Not only did I like Max, I think Jessica Alba is a good actress.

3.) I like Keira Knightly too.

4.) I liked Dollhouse but I'm sorry it was renewed.

5.) I think Spirit is both terribly unsexy and a horrible father.

6.) Star Trek Reboot is neither as progressive or as reactionary as you think it is.

7.) Aang trying to kiss Katara in EIP was problematic - but not unforgivably so. What was unforgivable was the way it never got mentioned again.

8.) I hate Sai/Karin. I can't even fully articulate way.

9.) 9>10 in Doctor Who

10.) I think the original FMA anime is better than the manga.

8) I didn't even know that pairing was popular. o_O it seems pretty random and ridiculous, imo. have they even interacted with each other?

10) freaking word. though, in all honesty, I didn't finish the anime or keep up with the manga past the tenth (?) volume (no idea what chapter; around halfway, I guess), but the former made so much more sense than the latter. I dropped the manga because I lost interest, but the only reason I didn't keep up with the show was lack of time.

8. They haven't.

10 I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels that way.
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 06:42 am (UTC)
I am with you on 10. I tried reading the manga both before and after I saw the anime and just. Could not get into it at all.

Also, is Sai/Karin popular? I don't think I've ever come across it before. But then, I rarely seek out Naruto fanfiction anymore, so I have no idea what the current trends are.

There is a little bubble that is all Karin/Sai flail, flail and I'm like.... please, no. Don't do that to Sai.
Friday, June 12th, 2009 02:09 am (UTC)
May I ask why you think the pairing would be bad for Sai in particular? I'm completely unfamiliar with the pairing dynamics or how it's normally portrayed, so I'm kind of curious.

I say this as someone who loves Karin: the girl is deeply, deeply fucked up. She participated in human experimentation, thinks nothing of trying to rape her crush, and is obsessed with a boy who looks just like Sai.

Sai, on the other hand, is a young man who has been brainwashed so deeply he isn't sure of even his own emotions and is trying to learn how to be human, guided by books and observation.

In some ways, he's very child-like.

I wouldn't trust Karin with my pet betta fish.

When I was discussing Sai/Sakura with friends, the potential dark side of that pairing was brought up: that if Sakura is helping Sai become more human, she's in the perfect position to form him into whoever she wants, and to a certain extend I think he would go along with that. However, I believe Sakura has the moral integrity to refrain from doing so, and would help him find his own personality. The same can not be said for Karin.

Honestly, I haven't read a whole bunch of fic, so I'm not sure what the majority of fic writers are doing with this pairing, but those are my thoughts on it.

Ahhh, okay, yes, that makes sense.
Friday, June 12th, 2009 04:46 pm (UTC)
*nods*

Karin needs someone who can take her shit and dish it right back - which is why I ship Karin/Suigetsu.
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 06:54 am (UTC)
There are people that don't like Keira Knightley? I really, really love her.

9.) 9>10 in Doctor Who

Word.
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 10:06 am (UTC)
I do too! She's seemed so nice in all the interviews I've read, she's gorgeous, and I've loved the majority of her movies.

1. Well I'm mixed between hitting and hugging him. Ok, more of the hitting, but I think he's toned down since the start of the series. And yeah, my family agrees with you.

3. I can see why people hate her, but I think she's kick-ass.

6. Step-father Star Trek nerd agrees.

9. I like them all, but 9 was my first Doctor.

10. The only thing that I disagree with you on, but that's just my taste. And the fact that one of my favorite characters isn't in the anime. Well, half in it anyway. I liked it tho.
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 10:04 am (UTC)
1.) He's just such a jackass.

3.) It's one of those cases where I don't get why people are so freaking militant about it.

6.) Sweet!

Choosing between Stein and Spirit, I'd go with Stein every time; Spirit is too goofy to be sexy.

I don't get Sai/Karin at all, just like I don't get Deidara/Ino, whose only supporting argument that I've seen is that they have similar hair.

Totally agreed on 10. I dropped the FMA manga when I first read it, and then got into the original anime in a major way.
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 10:02 am (UTC)
Stein>Spirit, no question.

Deidara/Ino, whose only supporting argument that I've seen is that they have similar hair.

Well, they WOULD be hot together.....

There is something off about how the humor works in the FMA manga, imho.
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 11:01 pm (UTC)
They look hot together, it's true, but I dunno about chemistry-wise. Maybe it's just because I've become smitten with Deidara/Temari recently (which to me, feels like a rougher around the edges Deidara/Sakura in that she grounds him a bit better than Ino does, plus he gets off on her angry and violent side.)

Yeah, the humor does feel a little off in the FMA manga.
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 11:59 pm (UTC)
See, in a lot of ways I think Ino and Deidara would be too much alike. I like contrast in my pairings, visual and personality wise.

It does - there are dramatic scene that that mangaka will make comedic, and it really threw me out of the story.

Yeah, that's exactly why I feel like it doesn't really work, their personalities are too similar.

Balancing humor and drama can be tricky, and I agree that it just wasn't done as well in the manga.

And that is one of the things that draws me to a work of fiction, so when it's off, I really notice.

Not only did I like Max, I think Jessica Alba is a good actress.

This seems odd to me. I can see people not liking all the characters of a show, but Max was the main character. Don't people usually like the main character? And Alba was a good actress....
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 11:51 pm (UTC)
It seems odd to me too.

Especially since it's really Max-centric and doesn't have a heavy ensemble cast.
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 10:35 pm (UTC)
Most--scratch that all--of the Max hating I've seen is because, to condense it, she doesn't fall at Alec's feet and kiss them. Because, you know, he's hot. And fandom is full of misogyny.
Saturday, July 25th, 2009 03:18 pm (UTC)
Sadly true.
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 02:25 pm (UTC)
I like Tony in the series, but I think that's more because of what he adds to the story and how he interacts with everyone. If he wasn't there, the side-stories would be a lot more boring, I think.

In real life, though, I think my reaction to him would be more like Kate's.

I hope they don't bring him and Ziva together. The reason why their relationship is appealing is because they DON'T get together. It's the teasing, the pushing of each other's boundaries, that makes us interested. If they do get together, it'll mean the final season, which I do not want.

Not to mention after the events of recent episodes I'd be shocked if Ziva actually wanted to be with him. (Plus she has bigger things on her mind, if you watch the season finale.)

How you noticed that a lot of shows seem Mussad happy? (I am too lazy to Google how it's spelled)

People think Spirit is sexy? He's such a weird goof, though. He admittedly is bad but I totally felt for him when he got blamed for buying Maka sexy underwear, which he totally did not do. It's not going to change, though. That's his gimmick. Just like Stein with his chair.

Stein>Spirit.

(I'll bet you anything there is smutty yaoi about Stein's "experiments" on Spirit.)

I didn't. NCIS is one of those shows that I catch on the gym and know by fandom osmosis.

He admittedly is bad but I totally felt for him when he got blamed for buying Maka sexy underwear, which he totally did not do.

I don't, because at best, he shoved off the job of buying his daughter a birthday present on his for-money girlfriend.

(I'll bet you anything there is smutty yaoi about Stein's "experiments" on Spirit.)

Sucker bet: I've already seen it.

YAY FOR #9. and for 9. not that i haven't come around to ten, or that i don't get fangirly about david tennant. *cough.* but i LOVE series 1 of doctor who, and i really don't think people give it enough credit. in the least.
Friday, June 12th, 2009 03:26 am (UTC)
I agree. It's severely unrated.
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 04:27 pm (UTC)
3. I must admit I'm not a huge fan of Keira Knightley's. I don't think she's a very good actress and I think she gets miscast a lot. She does better at the tomboy stuff than the romantic, serious stuff, which she gets cast as because she's beautiful. Bend it Like Beckham was more her niche. Atonement was not. Plus, I'm of the opinion that she was a dreadful Eliza Bennet, but that movie was terrible all around and I'm fully aware that I'm being sort of snobbish about it.

6. Word.

8. I just don't get it. I don't understand the appeal.
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 04:37 pm (UTC)
3.) *shrugs* I loved P&P. I know a lot of people hated her in that, though.

8.) I sort of get the hotness factor, but I just feel like it ends up being cruel to Sai.
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 05:57 pm (UTC)
2) ...there are people who don't like Max and think Jessica Alba is a bad actress? DDDDDDDDD: ;_;

8) Sai/Karin...er...not familiar with the workings of that pairing. 0.o
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 05:57 pm (UTC)
2) -is a fan of Max and Ms. Alba, btw-

I don't get it either.
