Fandom Fucks With You

So, you know that horrible biased fanfiction survey that was going around? Well, Boston University has officially disavowed affiliation with him because he has no expertise in the field he's studying, he has a profit motivation, and his work is not being overseen in order to insure that he is being ethical (he's totally not, btw).

Great article on what to do to help get more positive portrays of people of color in the movies
.

I kind of gave that survey the stinkeye when it first showed up on my f-flist, and I'm glad to know my intuition was right. Thanks for the links.

Aw, what great posts! Thanks for the linkage--my brain needed something to chew on after seventy-five minutes of the history of sociology (which is surprisingly much more boring than it sounds :C).

... I hadn't heard of this at all. And I'm a student at BU. xD Just goes to show I live under a rock. Thanks for sharing the links!

.........OMG! This is going to sound totally sad, but I had no idea that such a survey was even going around! When did it actually come about and be up on LJ?

I just think that that survey is SOO wrong, and I can't say that I blame the person for not participating. that survey is just......grrrrrrrrrr.

What I find saddest is that they cultivated and articulate fannish lady (Shaggirl) to discuss fandom and slash with them at great length. Then seriously back-stabbed her. I'm sure she feels used... I'm sure a lot of fandom feels used.

Honestly, the best thing to do is to ferret out which publisher they planned to sell this work, and armtwist/blackmail them to drop the project. I honestly don't think anything other short of a rabbit-kick to their wallets will jump start their conscience.

Oh man, another friend of mine posted about Ogifail.

Just...What...

Seriously, what.

*Brain meltdown has hit critical stage, evacuate if you can run at the speed of sound or faster, but otherwise, you're pretty much screwed.*
