Obvious Child from Gillian Robespierre on Vimeo.

Trigger warning: This is an awesome short film about a twenty-something who matter-of-factly gets an abortion after a one-night stand. It's a mix of funny and gut-wrenching. The section where she tells her mother is quietly chilling. (Who was supportive, which I firmly approve of. I was bracing for her to be disapproving.)

The main actress is so cute! I liked it... very well-done.

She certainly was.

The actors playing Donna and Peter were both so awesome to watch together--their interactions were so sweet.

I think the idea behind this movie is fantastic. Something that pulls me back a little is that her situation is almost too perfect. Everything kind of falls into place a little too easy. But, that's what movies are all about--right? Almost played like a fantasy.

The "I don't actually like to double fist" line made me laugh in that barking kind of way I do that jolts my dog from slumber. XD

They were super-sweet!

And I really liked the almost too-perfectness of the story. I think there need to be more abortian narratives and, in particular, not traumatic abortion narratives in our culture.

The perfection in this wasn't any more unbelievable than all the knocked-up rom-coms. (In fact, it's a great deal more so.)

Probably why I don't like romantic comedies in general. XD

There are a lot of abortion narratives out there, but they're just not mainstream. It's awesome that you found this little gem. I used to watch a lot of them when I worked for a women's clinic and victim's assistance center when I lived in NY, and they were either extravagantly over-the-top dramatic or played like an instructional video. Bizarre.

The instructional video aspect actually makes a hell of a lot of sense, considering that abortion narratives aren't mainstream and thus, a lot of people really don't know details about what happens when you get an abortion.
