I feel like you have a really awesome Gaila fic in you.
This made me feel so flattered. Although there has been such awesome Gaila fic written that I'm not sure that I could add to the canon.
And I kind of miss your random Kakasaku tidbits but I can see why you've moved on (I really don't care about Naruto anymore).
I sort of do too, except I'm really, really done with that fandom, and when I did my yearly fanfic compilation I realized how much of it I'd written and felt so much like I'd just wasted that time.
Why? I think it's a good series, but with a very reduced fandom, than more usually that not, consist in people that writes "AU" fics, or don't care to portray the characters with the deep that is necesary (and the few that do, don't finish their fics). I also think that there is a lot of sexism in the fandom and character bashing.
And I think that your writing style, your skill to analize the characters and to make a believable situation, an most important, without be unfaithfull to the spirit of the characters, would make everything you make about escaflowne, most amazing (being that a character analisis, a summary of the series, or a fic).
Interestingly enough, I'm about a third of the way through Escaflowne. My RL best friend is showing it to me. It's both really good, and has some of the problems that have (at the moment) driven me away from manga/anime.
I'm really sorry to hear that the fandom doesn't have good fic. That's always a shame.
Yeah, you are right, it's pretty simmilar to other manga plots... but I like that at least, in Escaflowne, Hitomi can save others... even if Van and Allen are the "mighty guys", with the "swords and big robots"... Hitomi saves Van life (I think), in more ocassions that Van saves Hitomi, and you have Millerna, that even if she is a spoiled princess and has that "princess and his knight" thing going on, she is a medic, she likes to be useful, and she is a person with a very strong personality...
So, are you around the 10th chapter? I love that escaflowne is fast paced... nothing seems to be a filler...

Black Lagoon
Legend of the Seeker
And I've loved all the Star Trek stuff you've written.

It's a lot of the classic tropes done well but given my frustrations with the tropes themselves, it's not quite enough to get me hooked on this anime.
And I'm watching it by episodes, and I don't quite remember where I left off.
