gacked from [livejournal.com profile] penknife :

Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general.

Just one question, please, but it can (and perhaps should) have sub-parts.

Question can be as wacky as you want. Ask me about tv shows, characters, fanfic in general, fandom issues/meta, anything about any of my stories specifically. Whatever you want.

Now, I understand that this can, for whatever reason, be a hot topic so if it causes issues there's no need to answer...BUT I am curious. How do you feel about AO3? Do you like and/or dislike all or parts of it and why?

I'm really neutral on AO3. On the plus side, with all the history lj has had with being unwelcoming to fandom, and most other sites aren't that much better, there IS a need for a large, well-designed, multi-fandom place to hang. On the minus side, AO3 IS putting themselves in the position of representing fandom and being pretty public about it. Now, representing a group as large and diverse as fandom is always dicy, plus there are a lot of people (myself included) who prefer fandom to be under the radar, which is kind of against the very core of what AO3 is doing.

What character is your favorite subversion of the character type she or he belongs to?

Katara is my favorite subversion of the healer/team mom character trope.

Are there any tropes you like to subvert in your writing? Are there any that you avoid like the plague? And, why?

Tentative, virginal heroines are a trope I avoid like the plague, I think for obvious reasons (it's boring and cliche and sexist).

I like to subvert the 'man saves the day' by having the ladies swoop in and rescue their menfolk, because it makes me very happy.
