The past couple of days I started feeling very nostalgic for my old-school fandoms.

Like, yesterday I was wondering if in the two? three? years since I've been out of Saiyuki, has anyone written any new Yaone het?

And also, I was reminiscing about the days prior to Avatar's finale and the casting!fail of the movie, when Suki was climbing up walls and my love for Zutara burned like a fiery heart.

Strange that you posted this. I had just finished reading your fic: "Ghosts With A Negative Age", because...well, sometimes I just like going back and reading old, but awesome fics, and when I clicked back I thought I'd made some mistake when I saw the Hakkai icon. XD

But yeah, I'm also dipping back into some Avatar. I miss when I could think of that series without thinking of the immense casting!fail.

Ha!

And I do the small thing - that's why I favorite favorite fics - it's specifically so I can go back and reread the old but still excellent ones.

For me, the major taint on the series itself are my lingering problems with the latter half of season 3. But I think I could get over it if I dedicated some time to rewatching the series, starting at the beginning.

Season Two was the high point of the series, imho. Season three had some pretty sloppy writing going on, so the episodes were hit-or-miss...mostly miss. I liked a few of them: Painted Lady, Western Air Temple, Southern Raiders, but they needed to focus on the plot and getting Zuko over to the Gaang a LOT EARLIER so they didn't have to go through awkward Zuko/Gaang episodes.

And then the creators kind of...failed at romance for season three. A lot. And at character development. And at...shit. *goes back to Siege of the North and Crossroads of Destiny*

I agree - there were pacing issues which I really think affected a lot of the characterization that was going on in season 3. Season two was much tighter and seemed to be telling a much more realistic and epic story.

No argument here.
